In the rich areas of Sweden almost everyone votes for the pro-immigration parties. But what happens when the state wants to open a refugee home in their areas? Well, hypocrisy happens!
HYPOCRISY | Contrary to popular belief, it turns out that Swedes aren’t all that unaware of what’s going on in their country, with unaware being the keyword. Unaware in the sense that they know something’s wrong, they just don’t want to say what quite can’t put their finger on what. Luckily, we have polling institutes which sometimes have the decency to ask the regular Swede about things that aren’t related to fashion, TV and the Eurovision Song Contest.
This time, the polling institute Novus asked Swedes what they thought about the political situation since the election 2014. The catch however, was that only three single words could be chosen as answers. Despite this, the most common answers were: Chaos, Messy and Worrisome; not too bad given the circumstances.
While this might sound like great news and a sign that the vikings are finally awakening, let me remind you that we still have quite a bit of cognitive dissonance left in our heads. An example of this, related to the above poll, is shown among the more… well-off citizens of Gothenburg (the same people who were very welcoming of a children’s pride parade). Because when the Swedish state television (SVT) went out to the affluent area of Askim (where the majority voted FOR this kind of development) in Gothenburg to see what the people there, in their houses with sea-side view, thought about the plans of housing refugees in the area; the idea of small refugee children were suddenly not that cute anymore.
Yoga-teacher(!) Isabel Holmquist explains:
I’d rather not want them to live here but I understand they have to live somewhere. You want to help but you’d rather not have them in your backyard.
But someone else’s backyard works fine though. Also, notice the usage of the pronoun “you” and Not “I”, that would make her look like a hypocrite. When “you” is used however, it’s implied everyone else thinks the same way as her, and therefore being hypocritical is fine. Shame on you nontheless, Yoga-teacher, I bet those poor refugees could use some, ahem… “spiritual enlightenment”.
Another woman, Catrine Reichmann, is also concerned:
Im worried about the quantity of people who are coming here, traumatized by war and such. And the surplus of men. My daughter is a teenager.
Yikes. She probably has no problems with exposing other people’s daughters though.
In all seriousness though, what did these people think would happen? That everyone would fit in the out of sight, run-down suburbs and happily stay there? That, somehow, these people would adopt Swedish values through osmosis?
The lack of long-term, consequential thinking in the majority of the population is astounding. Be smart and don’t be like these people. Try to think one step further.
